Q: The belief system that’s been handed down to me is reputation goes above time and money, and that has gotten me pretty far, but it’s keeping me back from a lot. I’m trying to figure out, do I completely get rid of it? Do I replace it with something else? I’ve tried to get rid of it before and that became a very dark period for me where I was trying to get rid of this entire belief system that I had and what was driving me. I felt that I was left with nothing to keep me motivated. I’m trying to figure out how you let go of those beliefs systems and what you replace them with.
A: There are a lot of empty moments between when you leave your old beliefs behind and really get comfortable in your new beliefs. Imagine you have kids and when you get together with your friends and family one of the topics you talk about are your kids. Imagine if one day you showed up with your friends and family and they asked about your kids and you looked at them and said, _Kids? What are you talking about I don’t have any kids._ They would look at you like you’re crazy. It’s the same thing with your beliefs. You keep going back to people who are used to you with these old set of beliefs and it takes time for you to define your new beliefs. There’s a period of time where you really haven’t figured out what the new beliefs are, but you only know that the old beliefs aren’t working anymore. You have to be okay with that emptiness.
