Q: I’m in desperate need of hiring an associate attorney. I’ve been posting ads, changing them, and not getting great candidates for the last four months and I’m buried under my calendar. Am I being too picky? Should I just get somebody in?
A: No. You’re better alone than in bad company. Here’s the reality. You’re going to hire them, then you’re going to have to spend two weeks training them, then you’re going to take two more weeks to discover that they suck, and then you’re going to spend two weeks trying to justify keeping them around, and then it’s going to take you two more weeks to get around to firing them because you’re so busy cleaning up after them, then you’re going to fire them and start the process all over again. You’ll just have wasted two months. What I would recommend you do is bite the bullet and hire a headhunter, a real headhunter.
