Testimonial
Q: I have a sales question; actually it’s a two-part question. One is, I do criminal defense and immigration, and often times when someone gets accused of a crime or gets arrested, for the family who is putting up the legal fees they may not have a few grand sitting aside and so in terms of closing the deal what do you do if the family doesn’t have the money at the time? Also, should I allow potential clients to negotiate the fee?
A: So, in other words, you want me to sell you a car with no brakes? If you charge less than what you need to charge to deliver the product that you’re going to be proud of sooner or later someone has to pay the piper. It may not be the client in front of you today; it may not be the client sitting in front of you tomorrow; it may wind up being one of your kids or your spouse or your friend or your health. But, sooner or later someone is going to have to pay the piper if you’re giving more than you get. There’s got to be balance. So no, you shouldn’t lower the fee.
