Q: I don’t have enough of a track record in my practice doing contingency cases to really predict profitability, hit rate, to be able to predict how much money I’m going to get from a case.
A: Right. You don’t know how to say this case is worth $5,000; this case is worth $10,000, that case is worth $100,000. I’m going to give you a thirty second lesson. Client comes in and you can tell how much the client is owed. The case could be worth $50,000 to $150,000. So in the beginning just pick an average, let’s just guesstimate it could be worth $100,000 and then deduct $75,000 to be conservative. So if you think it could be worth $50,000 to $150,000 let’s pick $100,000 as a middle and then drop it to $75,000 for our financial projections. And as you get more experience doing this that range is going to get narrower.
