Q: I finally took that leap of faith to hire an associate but taking that leap of faith was very scary and making those first two or three payrolls was the scariest thing of all. Listening to your team today I understand I have to train them and bring them in, but I’ve got to get them profitable as quickly as possible. How do I balance those values?
A: Get them profitable before you bring them in. Have a plan for how someone’s going to be profitable before you hire them. Every position on our payroll has its own mini business plan. Every position on our payroll has a job description. We know how we expect each person to perform to make a profit for us and when people come to work with us we really do believe that we are giving them an opportunity. Then it’s up to us to give them the tools and resources the business plan says they’ll have access to, and it’s up to them to use those tools and resources.
