I started my firm in June of 2009 and over the summer after I started my firm I went through RJon Robins’ course on How to Start a Law Firm in 12 Weeks or Less. I think RJon gives a lot of value to folks who are just starting out. In short, the cost of RJon’s system is not trivial especially as you’re starting off a solo practice. The problem is the cost of everything you’re doing is not trivial when you’re starting a solo practice and it’s true you can start a solo practice pretty cheap and you can do it a lot cheaper than you could years ago. But I think the kind of mistakes you make if you don’t go through RJon systems or you go through it on your own and you happen to not have a tremendous amount of luck, the mistakes that you can make can cost you a good deal more than RJon’s program does. Again I think it gives you a great way of thinking systematically of your practice as a business. In some ways it’s like a little MBA program for lawyers. And I’ve found it tremendously valuable in starting my practice and I think you’ll find it tremendously valuable in starting yours.
